Marilyn Monroe – Mandolin Sitting (MN-52)

The Essential Marilyn Collection
Milton H. Greene
  • Milton and Marilyn's first shoot together took place in Los Angeles for _Look Magazine_ in September of 1953. In this image from "The Mandolin Sitting," Marilyn poses with a mandolin, vibrantly colored boas and flowers. This sitting was one of six sittings photographed that first meeting (Tree, Evening Dress, Nude, Rock Sitting and some candid images were shot during that assignment). To Marilyn's surprise, she realized that day that color photography's wonder boy was in fact "just a boy" to which Milton replied "you're just a girl." That small gesture of recognition laid a foundation for their enduring friendship. This extraordinary picture was not actually published until 1996 in The Archives' best-selling book _Milton's Marilyn_.Pin_it_button
